Mouthwash is a very common product. It can found in most household bathrooms. If asked what it is for your instant reaction is to say ‘clean (or freshen) your mouth and breath’. That is the most common use but, there are so many other uses for it. Here are some of my favorite ones:
Fungus
If you have fungus on your toenails or fingernails soaking them in a mouthwash and water solution.
Disposal Odor
If your disposal in your sink has an order, dump a ½ cup of mouthwash down the drain. It should remove the odor.
Toothbrush
If you need to clean your toothbrush due to being sick or any other reason, soak it in some mouthwash. The antibacterial properties will help to kill the germs on the toothbrush.
Deodorant
Running out of deodorant can be a pain but, have no fear. Putting some mouthwash on a cotton ball and rub it on your armpits. The mouthwash will help to eliminate any odors that are there.
Toilet Bowl
Toilet bowl odors can be difficult to get rid of. Dump some mouthwash into the toilet bowl and swish with the toilet brush and let sit for 30 minutes. The mouthwash will act as a disinfectant and deodorizer within the toilet bowl.
Bug Bites and Stings
Dabbing mouthwash on the bites and stings will have a numbing effect to the itching and clean any possible bacteria from the area.
Dandruff
Sometime around the 1950s mouthwash was on the market as a solution to dandruff. It has many ingredients in it that will help to fight the potential causes of dandruff. Simply pour some on your hair and massage into your scalp. Wrap your hair in a towel while it does its thing then, wash your hair like normal.
Acne
Applying a cotton ball soaked in mouthwash can help treat acne. For some, it even works better than any other product on the market. Using the mouthwash one to two times a day can significantly reduce acne if not eliminate it all together.
Smelly Garbage Can
If your garbage can is anything like mine, the garbage seems to smell daily. Place a paper towel soaked in mouthwash into the bottom of your garbage bag. Doing this will help to eliminate odors and leave it smelly minty too.
Bruises
Placing a cotton ball or paper towel with mouthwash on it will help to heal bruises faster than if they are just left alone.
Washing Machine
Does your washing machine have a musty smell you just can’t get rid of? Add 1 cup of mouthwash to a load of laundry (with your regular detergent) and wash like normal. Not only will your laundry be clean but, your washer shouldn’t have the musty smell anymore.
Toothache
If you have a toothache, you can dab some mouthwash on it and it will help to numb the pain temporarily.
Mouthwash has been marketed for so many things over the centuries it has been on the market. I’m sure many of these uses weren’t even on the inventors radar.
