Baking Soda is another one of those things you probably have in your house somewhere, that you use for certain things. However, it has has so many other uses. While making this list for you I was surprised at the number of uses I was unaware of.
Face Scrub
If you make a 3 to 1 ratio of baking soda to water, you will make a paste that is perfect for cleaning and exfoliating your skin.
Drain Cleaner
Dump some baking soda down the drain. Dump in some vinegar and quickly place the stopper in the sink. Keeping the mixture in the drain will help it to clean the drain better.
Scorched Food
If you happened to scorch some food on the bottom of one of your pots or pans, add some water and a sprinkle of baking soda. Simmer it for a bit and then the scorched food should wipe right off.
Litter Box
No matter how frequently you clean the litter box sometimes, it still seems to smell. Sprinkle some baking soda on it and use the scoop to mix it in. This should help ease the smell for a day or two.
Carpet Stains and Odors
Baking soda should eliminate most carpet stains and odors. Remove excess moisture from spills by blotting it out. Sprinkle Baking Soda on it and let dry. Next, vacuum it up and the stain should be gone.
If it is just odor you are trying to remove, sprinkle the baking soda on it and let sit for at least 15 minutes and then vacuum.
Jacuzzi Jets
Jacuzzi jets can be difficult to clean. Sometimes even commercial cleaners don’t seem to take the funky smell away. Fill the tub just over the jets and add two cups of baking soda. Turn the jets on and let them run for 10 minutes. Shut them off and drain the tub out. Then, refill with plain water. Turn the jets back on for another 10 minutes. The jets should be working much better by this point.
Deodorant
If the feeling of deodorant is not ideal for you or, you are looking for a more natural route, enter baking soda. You can use plain baking soda and dust it on your armpits or, you can make your own baking soda based deodorant.
Small Grease Fires
Baking soda works great at putting out small grease fires on the stove top. If it is safe to do so, shut off the stove. Stand back and toss small handfulls of baking soda on the fire until it is extinguished.
Shampoo
Once a month, add a small amount of baking soda to your shampoo to help clear all the build up. Use your shampoo like normal and the build up should disappear.
Smooth Hands and Fingers
Making a 3 to 1 ratio baking soda paste and rubbing it onto your hands and fingers (especially around the nails) it will help to keep the whole area smooth.
Gym and Sports Bags
Gym and sports bags get pretty stinky. Adding a sachet of baking soda to the bag will help to keep odors at bay.
Coffee Pot
If your house is like mine, I have hard water. This means my coffee pot gets hard water build up pretty quickly. Thankfully, I can get rid of it by leaving a ¼ cup of baking soda in a full pot of water overnight. Rinse it out thoroughly in the morning and you are ready to make your cup of liquid gold.
Laundry
Adding ¼ cup of baking soda to your white will keep them whiter longer. Not to mention it can help to remove any stains that may be on your clothes.
Weeds
Putting baking soda on the weeds is a sure way to kill them. However, do not do this in your flower beds or your flowers may die as well.
Produce
Baking soda is mildly abrasive making it a great produce cleanser. Not to mention it also kills a certain form of bacteria and fungi.
Splinters
If the splinter is pretty deep, don’t go digging for it. Instead, put a baking soda paste on it and cover it with a bandaid over night. In the morning the splinter should have surfaced and you should easily be able to remove it with tweezers.
I could go on and on with the number of uses that baking soda has outside of its ‘common uses’. This list is a few ideas to get you started. Baking soda has what seems like an abundant number of uses.
