My new favorite way to decorate Easter eggs is now with rubber cement! It makes awesome designs and it's so fun watching them in the new color.
Here's a tutorial video I made...
Supplies Needed:
- Rubber cement
- Food coloring
- Vinegar/Water
- Bottle caps/rolled up paper
- Cups
- Spoons
Start by dying white blown out eggs or hard boiled eggs (THESE ARE NOT EDIBLE AFTER!!) with ½ cup boiling water with 1 tsp vinegar then add the food coloring. Let sit for 2 or 3 minutes then take them out to dry.
Once dry, you will need a "stand" to put an egg. We used water bottle caps and little cups but you can also cut a paper towel roll and tape it into a little circle. Take your rubber cement and let it drip on your egg anyway you like! I loved the swirled look and you can make fun designs by making skinny lines and fat ones. Let dry.
Once the cement is completely dry (it will still be sticky) roll it in a cup of a darker dye. Leave it in for 30 seconds-1 minute then put it on a rack to dry. Kids will love seeing their awesome eggs!
