The hard outer shell or "armor" of an Armadillo is made up of bone. This is to help protect them from predators. There were Armadillos in the book we read the other night (Armadillo Tattletale). What do you do when your child gossips? Have you ever tried the Chinese Whisper? It is an activity (make it something funny) to show how stories are altered little by little as they are passed from person to person. By the end the story is different from how it started with the first person. It's a fun way to show children how gossip works! We also saw a rainbow this week, that inspired us to give our Armadillo a blue body & colorful shell. You can make your own Rainbow Armadillo with just a few items that you probably already have at home:
- Construction paper
- Card stock
- Glue
- Scissors
- Goggly eye
- Pencil
First thing you need to do is draw the parts of your Armadillo. Draw a head, 2 ears, a tail, 4 legs, & shell. Cut out all of the pieces, including stripes for the bands on the armor (make sure to use multiple colors).
Now all that's left to do is glue all of the pieces onto a piece of card stock. You will have something that looks like this!
Only the 3 banded Armadillo can roll into a ball. Looks like our Armadillo is going to have to find a hole to hid in!
