Cantaloupe has always been a mystery to me in the grocery store, I either get a rock hard one or a mushy one. Using these tips, I have chosen the sweetest ripest ones in the box every time! Watch the video below for more in depth information or read my notes below.
How to Pick a Ripe Cantaloupe:
- Firmness- Using two thumbs, press on the blossom end (opposite of the stem end) and it should yield slightly just like a ripe avocado would.
- Weight- It should feel heavy for its size.
- Smell- Smell the stem to make sure there's a sweet musky aroma to it. If the cantaloupe's are in the fridge section it may be difficult to smell at all. Look for room temperature ones.
