In honor of fall, we made these pretty popcorn trees! I was inspired by Happy Hooligans who used popcorn as leaves for a stick tree! She used tempera paint powder but I didn't have that. You could also make these into apple trees if you used red and green food coloring. Do note that this art project will take 2 days because the drying process is long.
Materials Needed:
- Toilet paper rolls
- Water/food coloring
- Glue
- Scissors
- Popcorn
Start by popping some regular popcorn and setting out a bunch for the kids (unfortunately I burned ours but we picked out the pretty ones lol!) After that, cut out a tree shape from white card stock paper. Put tons of glue on it and have the kids stick the pieces of popcorn to it. You can also have them dip the actual kernel in glue and then stick it on.
You can either wait until the glue dries or just get out some red/orange food coloring and drip it all over the tree top. It takes a LONG time for it to dry so set it aside overnight.
The next day cut two slits across from each other on an empty toilet paper roll and stick the paper in it. There you will have some pretty trees! Note that by putting water and food coloring on the popcorn it will shrink up.
