This spider activity will give your child hours of spooky Playdough fun! To make playdough spiders, gather colorful pipe cleaners, straws, googly eyes and glitter. Let their imagination run wild!!
Build a Spider Playdough Activity
Ingredients
INGREDIENTS FOR BLACK PLAYDOUGH
- ½ cup water
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable oil
- ½ cup flour
- ¼ cup salt
- 1 tablespoon cream of tartar
- Black food coloring
INGREDIENTS FOR PURPLE PLAYDOUGH
- ½ cup water
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable oil
- ½ cup flour
- ¼ cup salt
- 1 tablespoon cream of tartar
- Purple food coloring
Instructions
- Add the flour, salt and cream of tartar to a mixing bowl and whisk to combine. Set aside.
- Add the water and coconut oil to a medium saucepan and heat under medium heat until a low boil begins. Remove from heat.
- Add 3-4 drops of the black food coloring to the water and whisk to distribute the color.
- Add half of the flour mixture to the water and stir well. Add the remaining flour and mix well until you can no longer see any white from the flour.
- Return the pan to the stove and heat the dough under medium heat (stirring constantly) for about 1 minute or until a stiff ball of dough forms. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 5 minutes.
- Knead the dough with your hands for about 5 minutes or until it is soft and pliable.
- Repeat the above directions using the purple food coloring.
Notes
*Store in an airtight plastic bag for up to 30 days.
