Today I was browsing Facebook and saw this AMAZING bridal shower towel cake creation! This homemade gift would make any bride-to-be smile! Thank you to Rachel for letting me share!
Materials Needed:
- 4 bath towels
- 4 hand towels
- 4 washcloths
- Tulle ribbon
- Rubber ducks
- Sticks/Dowels
- Cake pedestal
Rachel's Tutorial in her own words:
The towel cake was for my cousin's fiancee's bridal shower last weekend. I bought 4 sets of towels from their Macy's bridal registry - 4 bath, 4 hand, and 4 washcloths --- obviously base is the bath towels, middle layer is hand towels, and top is washcloths.
Instead of dowels to hold the layers together, I just used some tulle ribbon from the dollar tree to secure the layers altogether and to secure the whole cake to the base - I was going to just use a plastic platter from the dollar tree for the base but then I found an awesome heavy crystal/glass cake pedestal at a thrift shop for under $10 so I used that instead!
I also bought some giant rubber bands on amazon (the kind that can fit around the top of a large trash can) and used them to hold the coiled towels together tightly - then I used stick pins to secure the ribbon and silk flowers to the cake!
I read that wooden dowels could be used to hold the layers of the cake together or that the towels could be coiled around a bottle of wine or champagne but the bottle idea would work better if only using 2 sets of towels vs 4 - cake would be way too wide if I coiled the towels around a bottle.
Top of the cake tutorial: "I used wooden manicure sticks - stuck one into the small hole in the bottom of each duck as far as they would go and then stuck the other end of each stick into the coiled washcloths of the top layer."
Don't you just love this gift idea?! You can personalize it in so many ways!
