Here’s a fun Easter egg technique you can do with the kiddos this year ~ marbled and speckled eggs! Note that we started with rice shake eggs to get the speckled look.

Supplies Needed:

  • Oil
  • Hard boiled eggs (or blow them out)
  • Food Coloring
  • Water
  • Cups
  • Spoon

You will first want to dye the hard boiled eggs a solid lighter color. In our case, we did Rice Shake Easter Eggs to get a cool speckled look first! (see below) but you can just do the regular way and dye them with water/food coloring.

Pour about 1-1/2 inches of water in a cup and add in your food coloring. We added a lot more the second time to make a darker color. After you get the right shade, add 1 TBSP of oil (we used vegetable oil but i’m sure you could use olive oil, etc.) to the cup.

Using a spoon, put the egg into the mixture and roll it around a bit. You will see the how the oil affects the colors, so cool! Take it out and put them on a drying rack. Let them completely dry before you touch them!
