Top Uses and Benefits of Peppermint Oil
Peppermint oil is native to Europe but has become quite popular in other countries. Peppermint oil not only smells lovely but it’s useful in many different ways. Today I’m going to feature the top uses and benefits of peppermint oil so that you can start using this wonderful oil in your life on a regular basis.
Reduce Muscle Pain
Apply peppermint oil to the skin where you’re experiencing muscle or joint pain. The ingredients in peppermint oil have been known to prevent swelling, reduce inflammation and relieve pain from sore muscles and joints.
Reduce Nausea
You can mix 1-2 drops of peppermint oil with the same amount of coconut oil, place it behind your ears and it is said to reduce nausea. You may also take some peppermint oil and sniff it to reduce your stomach nausea from sickness or even chemotherapy.
Stop Heartburn
Mix 1-2 drops of peppermint oil with the same amount of coconut oil and then rub on your stomach to help stop heartburn in its tracks. Also, try mixing 1 drop of peppermint oil with ½ apple cider vinegar and 1 tsp. honey into warm water and drink to reduce heartburn.
Get Rid of Itch
Ever get so many bug bites while out in the woods or camping with the family that you simply itch yourself like crazy? Peppermint oil when applied topically to bug bites will deter those pesky bug bites from itching so intensely. Mix 5 drops of peppermint oil with 1 tbsp. of a carrier oil like coconut oil.
Reduce a Sore Throat
You can create a mixture to gargle with peppermint oil when you’re having a sore throat. Mix 1-2 drops of peppermint oil with warm water and gargle to help kill the bacteria that are causing the sore throat. Feel free to add ½ tsp of salt for added benefits.
Exfoliating Scrub
Use 5 drops of peppermint oil combined with 2 tbsp. of olive oil, and tbsp. natural rock salt to create your own exfoliating scrub. Blend the dry ingredients together before adding oil and then you’ll be able to use this with warm water twice a week for healthy looking skin.
Clear out Sinuses
You can easily clear out the congestion you have from allergies or a cold using peppermint oil. The menthol property of this oil will natural clear you out simply by sniffing it or you can add a few drops to your humidifier and let it run to help clear out your sinuses faster.
There are many more uses and benefits of peppermint oil. This oil has been used for a very long time now by our ancestors to cure many ailments. As you can see here, peppermint oil makes for the perfect option when it comes to soothing bug bites, sinus infections and relieving pain or itch when used as a topical ointment.
