  1. My 73 year old mother is crazy about white cake with white buttercream frosting (she loves weddings) and has been craving cake all week. So today I decided to make one for her using your buttercream frosting recipe. She absolutely loved it…so much better than store bought frosting.

A few tips though…a stand mixer is really much better to use for this recipe instead of a hand mixer as you might burn out your motor. Also, In order to help keep the buttercream from tasting greasy from the shortening, I recommend mixing the shortening and butter together on medium high speed for a full 10 minutes before adding the sugar.

I was a little worried how dry the mix looked after adding all the sugar, but once I added in the cream it was perfect consistancy. This made a generous amount of frosting and I had a good amount left over after frosting the 9 X 13 cake.

Thanks for sharing this recipe…I get the feeling I will be making a lot more white cake with buttercream frosting in the future.
