Laundry is probably one of my least favorite chores. Yet, somehow it needs to get done. It doesn’t matter who in the house does laundry, if there are any ways to make it easier, why not try it! Below I will share some of my favorite laundry hacks to make your laundry duty easier:
Wrinkled Clothes
If you have clothes that are wrinkled but don’t have the time to iron them, don’t worry. Put your clothes in the dryer and toss in a few ice cubes. You could even toss in a dryer sheet for a nice fresh scent. Run it for 10-15 minutes and remove the clothes promptly. They should be wrinkle free.
Clunking Shoes
If the thumping of the shoes going through the dryer drives you crazy, you aren’t alone. Shut the laces in the door.
Funky Smell in the Washer
If your washer seems to have a funky smell no matter what you do, it may be time to clean your washer. You can buy special tablets to use to clean them or, run a full cycle with just bleach in it.
Discolored Armpits
If some or all of your shirts have discolored armpits it can seem like it is impossible to get rid of. Use a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda. Once applied let sit for at least 60 minutes. After it has sat, wash like normal and the stain should be gone.
Socks
Give each family member a mesh lingerie bag to put their socks in. Not only does it make it almost impossible to lose socks in the washer or dryer, it also makes it easier to find who’s socks are whose.
Grease Stains
Grease stains can be a pain to remove if you aren’t sure just how to do it. Thankfully, it is easy. Just color the stained area(s) with chalk and wash like normal. It might take a few times of coloring the stain to remove it but, it does work.
Aluminum Foil
If you aren’t a fan of dryer sheets because of the left over residue, you can still get rid of static without using a dryer sheet. Toss a couple of balls of foil in the dryer with your clothes just like you would a dryer sheet and it works just the same.
Vinegar
Vinegar does a couple of things for your laundry. It first acts as a softener on tougher fabrics. It also is a great deodorizer. Just add it right into the fabric softener area of your washer and let it do it’s magic.
Tennis Balls
Tennis balls are great for fluffing things like large comforters, pillows and puffy winter coats. Place the a couple of tennis balls in an a couple of old white socks to eliminate the color bleeding and then place them in the dryer. The tennis balls will help keep the stuffing in these items from clumping.
Dry Clothes Faster
There are times when we just need a load of laundry to just dry faster. If this is the case, toss a dry towel in with your load of laundry. It will help to absorb some of the access water causing your clothes to dry faster.
Dry Erase Marker
Use a dry erase marker on the washing machine to make a note of which items cannot go in the dryer. This way, everyone is aware and nothing accidently gets ruined.
I sure hope that you find at least one of these tips helpful. Did you learn anything new? Did I forget your favorite tip? If so please share it with me! I am always on the lookout for ways to make doing laundry easier (and faster).
