The ketogenic diet is not just a diet but, a lifestyle. Most people start a ketogenic diet to lose weight. The keto diet also helps to lower blood sugars and cholesterol. When you are following specific dietary stipulations, the cost of food can quickly add up. If you know where to look and how to shop, you can follow a ketogenic diet on a budget.

Bulk Shopping

Buying in bulk costs more upfront so it may seem contradictory but, it really does save money in the long run. Most of the time you will find the best deals at wholesale stores. Occasionally you can find a good deal at your local supermarket so it never hurts to check the sales flyers. No matter where you find a good deal on your food, stock up whenever possible.

Use What You Buy

The key to getting your money’s worth is using everything you buy. Freeze what you can and use what you can’t freeze in a timely manner. Even food that is frozen should be used within the dedicated timeline.

Coupon

Coupons may seem a bit outdated but, they really do help to save money. You can find coupons for so many things these days. The best place to find coupons is online. Keto items don’t always have coupons but, if you watch for them you can get a good deal.

Pre-Expiration Sales

Anytime you go into the store, check the freezer and fresh area for discounted meats. As meats get closer to their expiration dates, the prices are slashed (often up to 20% sometimes more). Just be sure they get put in the freezer or used right away.

In Store Specials

Often stores often offer buy one get one offers, managers discounts and other special discounts. Some of these discounts aren’t always advertised in the store’s ads so look around when you are shopping.

Shop Online

Shopping online can save money on many things like: nuts, spices and certain flour types. You can also easily compare prices between stores as well.

Warehouse Stores

Warehouse stores usually have really great prices on chicken and beef. When you find a good deal, stock up and package in serving sizes.

Buy a Food saver

Using a food saver will help to keep the bulk products you buy fresher longer than your typical storage solutions.

Cook at Home

As much as possible cook and eat at home. It can make it much easier if you make extra when you have time to cook and freeze it. Doing this will ensure that you have food when you are in a hurry.

Spices

Spices are your best friend. Spices are very budget friendly and will help to make your meals more tasty and much more enjoyable. Even if you are buying cheaper cuts of meat they can still taste amazing.

Eggs

Eggs are cheap and almost an all-purpose food. You can make so many things with them. Whether it is breakfast, a snack or even dessert, eggs are a great ‘go-to’.

Tuna, Chicken Thighs, Ground Beef, Cream Cheese, Pickles

Keep an eye out for sales on those items as you can usually find them cheap!

What to Drink

Drinking coffee, water and tea will save you money. Not only is soda expensive but it is not good for you anyway. Buying coffee and tea is fairly cheap (especially when bought in bulk) plus, it stays fresh for long periods of time. Drinking mostly water will save you even more money.

Supplements

Supplements get pretty expensive. There is no need for these expensive supplements. Just make sure you are getting the proper nutrients by eating a balanced diets.

When first looking into the Ketogenic diet it can seem overwhelming and very expensive. There are so many ways that you can follow the keto diet in a budget friendly way. Following these tips should help.
