11 Ways to Use Vicks VapoRub

Most people generally know Vick’s rub for its use in decongestion and for colds, but if you only use it for colds you’re missing out! This stuff can be used in a variety of ways. Today I’m featuring 10 ways to use Vicks beyond just using it for cold and sickies.

Sore muscles

Apply a generous amount of Vick’s on areas that you are experiencing sore or aching muscles. It will help to relieve the pain when used often enough.

Pet training help

The scent of Vick’s is a strong deterrent for animals. Apply some to areas where your cat scratches too often to deter it from the area. Put some Vick’s in areas that your puppy likes to pee to deter the pup from marking its territory in that spot.

Relieve headaches

Rub some Vick’s on your temples and forehead gently to help relieve headaches. The pain will go away easily and pretty fast, without the use of any Tylenol or other medicine options.

Bug and tick help

If you apply Vick’s to the area that a tick attaches to you, the bug will be more likely to back out from your skin. The rub also is useful for a bug repellent when you’re out and about.

Get rid of fungus

Applying Vick’s to nail fungus will help kill off bacteria causing fungus and keep bacteria from growing after the fungus infection has grown out to be clipped off.

Cracked skin fix

Put some of this rub on dry cracking skin and apply a bandage. It helps to heal your cracking skin and prevent further damage. Leave it on your heels and put a sock on it overnight.

Wounds

Vick’s makes a good antibacterial barrier and helps speed up the healing of wounds. It’s most helpful on small paper cuts or splinters.

For focus and relief in aromatherapy

Using Vick’s rub in an aromatherapy device that can handle it will help to spread relief throughout the room. It has plenty of menthol which is good for keeping focus when you’re working hard and relieving headaches or other small pains.

Moisturizer

Vick’s rub also works very well as a moisturizer. Using it can help moisturize your skin and the scent will have the other benefits such as headache relief and focus.

Prevent infections and bruising

Some Vick’s rub helps to prevent infections in wounds by creating a barrier against bacteria. If you make a solution with Vick’s and salt you can prevent a bruise from turning the deep purple and help the area heal faster, but if the bruise is already dark there isn’t much the solution will do to help.

Ease Earaches

The antiseptic properties will ease the pain in your ear. Put a small dab of vicks on a cotton ball and leave in your ear for an hour.

As you can see there are dozens of ways to use Vick’s rub at home and in your everyday life. It works well in many situations to make life a lot easier for you. Hopefully, these 10 ways to use Vick’s will help you find more uses for that old container of Vick’s. No more old Vick’s rub wasting away until you get a cold, you can have uses for this year round!
