My car is one of the last places that I remember needs to be cleaned. I seem to only remember that it needs washed or cleaned out when I am in it. If I am totally honest, sometimes I even avoid it because cleaning my car can sometimes take hours upon hours (or at least it feels that way). I am happy to report that that doesn't have to be the case. These tricks may be a bit off the wall but, they will make it much easier to clean your car.
Hair conditioner that contains lanolin will shine the exterior of your car but, also work as a rain repellent.
An old pair of pantyhose will shine your headlights better than any rag you have. Use the pantyhose in combination with your favorite cleaning solution and they will be good as new.
Instead of using your trusty cleaning solution for your headlights, just reach for some toothpaste. Using a pair of old pantyhose, squeeze some toothpaste on them and with a little bit of elbow grease, you can not only clean the dirt off your headlights but also un-fog them as well. Once they look clean, rinse with water and dry with a clean soft cloth.
Tar is incredibly hard to remove for the body of your car. At least it used to be. It doesn’t have to be anymore. Just reach for the mayonaise. Yes, you read that right. Using a clean cloth coat the spots of tar in mayo. Let the mayo sit for a minimum of five minutes but, no longer than 10 minutes. Wipe it off with a new clean cloth and the tar should easily come off with it.
Charcoal (the same stuff you might put in your grill), will help to eliminate odors in your car. Place a few squares in an open ziplock bag under one of your seats for a couple of days and those strange odors will be gone.
Unfortunately, sometimes car sickness happens. Whether it is a person or an animal, club soda can help the the stain that is left behind out. Pour club soda slowly, directly over the stain. Let it sit for five minutes and then blot it with a clean paper towel. Repeat this until the stain is gone.
The grill of your car is most likely covered is dead bugs. I know mine is. Thankfully, they can easily be removed by using a wet dryer sheet.
Somehow, no matter how many times I clean it off, it is always sticky. Using a clean rag and goo gone will get all of that sticky gunk off of your dash.
Use your steam cleaner on your windshield. This will clean your window much better than paper towels and glass cleaner.
In a pinch baby wipes can clean just about anything in or on your car. Keeping a pack somewhere in your car will make it much easier to clean things up.
When washing your car, if you are like me you use one bucket. Next time, grab two buckets. One bucket will have your soapy water in it and the other will have just plain water in it. After each swipe with the soapy water, dunk your sponge in the plain water and ring it out until there is no more soapy residue left. After that you can dunk it in your soapy water again and take another pass on your car.
Using two buckets keeps the dirt off your car in the bucket with plain water so your soapy water continues to clean the car.
Cleaning your car and keeping it clean is pretty important. Not only will you feel better in a clean car but, many times keeping things like your headlights clean will keep you safer while driving. These unconventional ways to clean your car will hopefully make keeping it clean much easier for you.
