After making our fingerprint snowman ornament, we made a cute little gingerbread man salt dough ornament for the tree too! It's easy for kids to make on their own but will need supervision when baking the salt dough. This is a great Christmas gift idea to give to grandparents, teachers, etc!
Salt Dough Ornament Ingredients:
- 1 cup salt
- 1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
- ½ cup water
- Parchment paper or aluminium foil
- Straw/pen for punching a hole
Mix up all the ingredients and knead it so it gets firm. Roll the dough out and cut it in a circle using the brim of a glass (mine was about 3.5-4 inches in diameter). Then have the kids press their fingers into the dough starting with the middle of the body. To make the arms and legs longer have them smooth it out with their fingers. Use a straw to make a hole in the top of the ornament and set on some parchment paper.
Bake for 2-3 hours (depending on your oven) at 200 degrees. Once the ornament cools, take some acrylic paint and make your gingerbread man! Finish it by tying a cute red polka dot ribbon at the top.
